TULSA—Kyan Brown, who helped Oral Roberts University to its first Mid-Continent Conference basketball championship in 1999, has joined the men’s basketball staff as Recruiting Coordinator, ORU head coach Scott Sutton announced today.
Brown, who graduated from ORU in 2001, spent the last four years (2004-08) as an assistant coach at Missouri State under former Golden Eagles head coach Barry Hinson.
“We’re very pleased about Kyan returning to ORU,” said Sutton. “He’s worked his way through the college coaching ranks, from junior college, to Missouri State and now here. He did a great job for Barry, and his enthusiasm and passion for the game make him a great addition to our staff.”
In his new position at ORU, Brown will assist with all facets of recruiting, including arranging campus and in-home visits with prospects. He will also assist with various other day-to-day duties within the program.
“I’m really excited to work with Coach Sutton and the rest of the staff,” said Brown. “What they’ve been able to accomplish the last few seasons has been remarkable. I’m happy to be a part of the program. It feels like I’m back home.”
Prior to his stint at Missouri State, Brown served an assistant at Arkansas-Ft. Smith, helping the Lions to 43-17 record in two seasons (2002-04).
Immediately after graduating from ORU, Brown spent the 2001-02 season as freshman boys’ basketball coach and assistant varsity coach at Metro Christian Academy in Tulsa.
In three seasons as a player for the Golden Eagles (1998-2001), Brown appeared in 77 games with 34 starts, including 26 as a senior under then-rookie head coach Scott Sutton. As a senior, Brown averaged 7.6 points and 6.3 rebounds per game.
Brown and his wife, Suzanne, have two children, Khloe and Caleb.
