LINCOLN, Neb.—Christy Carter (Tulsa, Okla.) fired a final-round 74 to finish in a four-way tie for sixth place, helping lead Oral Roberts University to a sixth-place finish at the University of Nebraska’s Chip-N Club Invitational on Tuesday.
Carter completed the three-round tournament at 10-over par, shooting 73-76-74=223 to earn her 14th career Top 10 finish. She finished the tournament 11 strokes behind individual champion Linn Gustafsson (-1) of Texas State, who finished eight strokes ahead of her nearest competitor.
The Golden Eagles finished the tournament at plus-71 (317-310-296=923), two strokes behind fifth-place Kansas. ORU moved up two spots in the standings as Tuesday’s 296 team score was second only to the 295 recorded by Nebraska.
In addition to Carter’s strong play, senior Pamela Ontiveros (Torreon, Mexico) was also a major factor. After opening tournament play with an 81 in Monday’s morning round, Ontiveros rebounded to record a 74 Monday afternoon and a 73 on Tuesday, finishing in a tie for 14th at plus-15.
Sophomore Megan O’Connell (Odessa, Texas) fired a 3-over par 74 on Tuesday to finish at plus-24 for the tournament, while senior Jessica Gibson (Tulsa, Okla.) carded a 75 to finish the tourney at plus-25.
The Golden Eagles take next two weeks off before resuming their fall schedule at the ORU Invitational, October 1-2 at Meadowbrook Country Club in Tulsa.
