HOUSTON, Texas - The Houston Baptist Huskies were a tough test for the Oral Roberts men's soccer team as HBU came away with the victory in the season opener, 5-1.
The Golden Eagles were outshot by the Huskies in the contest, 27-6, with Ryan Grashik saving ten. It was the most saves in a match by a Golden Eagle keep since the 2010 season.
Sophomore Tom Adams broke a scoreless tie 10:27 into the match as he put the ball in goal off a rebound following a Golden Eagle corner from Gerardo Salas. Unfortunately, that was all the offensive production the Golden Eagles could muster against the up-and-coming Huskies.
Alexander Mackie added the only other shot on goal in the loss, coming with 8:15 remaining the in contest.
Both squads played a very physical game as the referees blew the whistle 40 times for fouls and handed out three yellow cards.
The Golden Eagles will have six days off before traveling to Conway, Ark., to face Missouri State in a neutral contest. Next weekend will conclude with a match against Central Arkansas on Sunday afternoon.
