TAMCC (9-4, 2-0 SLC) won by scores of 25-15, 25-22 and 25-18.
ORU finished the match with just 23 kills and hit only .009 on the afternoon, a new season low. Joana Gruber paced the Golden Eagles with eight kills, while Bruna Silva led the defensive effort with 18 digs. Jessica Pancratz posted six blocks in the match.
Tyger Holt led the Islanders with 13 kills, and Ivy Baresh added 10. Shayla Maldonado had a team-high 12 digs, and Shannon Hullum nearly chipped in a double-double with nine kills and 10 digs.
A Gruber service ace gave the Golden Eagles a 2-0 lead in the first set, but the Islanders scored the next five points, capped by a Micah Nolan service ace, to take a 5-2 lead. ORU surged back in front, 12-8, thanks to a pair of Tatum Fredeen aces, but the home team posted a 9-0 run to answer, capped by two Holt kills, to take an 18-13 lead. They won the set, 25-15, after taking the final six points.
ORU took control of the second set thanks to an early 9-3 run. Pancratz and Kylie Johnson capped the run with a block, giving the visitors a 13-10 lead. But Holt and Hullum combined for a block to give the Islanders a 17-16 lead, and the home team never trailed again. They took the set by a 25-22 count.
Hullum opened the third set with a kill and added another to give the Islanders a commanding 7-0 lead. A Baresh kill stretched the cushion to 13-3, though consecutive blocks by Pancratz and Luara Rosa helped ORU to pull the score back to 13-10. But a late six-point rally restored TAMCC’s huge lead, and they clinched the match with a 25-18 victory.
ORU returns home on Thursday, September 20 to face Southeastern Louisiana. Match time is set for 7 pm CT.
