THIBODAUX, La. - Megan Giles picked up her fourth goal of the season a little over a minute into double-overtime, earning the Golden Eagles a 2-1 victory over Southland Conference foe, Nicholls State.

Giles has been clutch for the Golden Eagles this season, as Sunday's goal in Louisiana was also her fourth game winner, including an overtime goal at Oklahoma back on Sept. 9. The goal against the Sooners sparked a stretch where the Golden Eagles have now lost just one of their last ten matches.

Earning the assist on the deciding goal was Jennifer Abernathy. The junior Abernathy set up Giles goal on a breakaway as the two caught the Nicholls State keeper out of position, scoring from the right side.

In the first half, the Colonels struck first in the match, scoring their lone goal in the 24th minute off the foot of Kristy Tatom, upon receiving a cross from Melissa Pestalozzi.

Despite entering the locker room looking up at the Colonels on the scoreboard, the Golden Eagles still controlled much of the first half. They held a 6-2 shot advantage in the first 45 minutes, two of which were on goal.

Abernathy had her hand in the first goal of the afternoon for Oral Roberts, setting up the fifth goal of the season by Kayla Keller. Her two assists bring Abernathy's total to five on the year, tying her for the team lead with Giles.

Eventually, the Golden Eagles held off a flurry of shots by the Colonels late in match, still coming out on top with six more than the home teams 10.

Within the late push by the Colonels, ORU keeper Helen Erb recorded two saves in the first extra period and one with seven seconds remaining in regulation. She finished with five saves route to her ninth victory of the year.

Overall, the Golden Eagle offense was balanced on Sunday, as Giles was the only one with multiple shots on goal with two. Ashley Martin, Lauren Parks, Mariah Morgan, Keller and Abernathy each added a single shot on goal.

The Golden Eagles (10-4-2, 4-1-0) are back at home for their final two match home stand of the season on Friday and next Sunday, as they host Lamar and Southeastern Louisiana, respectively. Friday's match at Lamar will be huge, as the two squads will entered in a tie in second place in the Southland. The match is scheduled for 7 p.m.
