ORU Swept by Privateers, 7-0

NEW ORLEANS, La. – Oral Roberts University fought hard but could not overcome a tough University of New Orleans team on Saturday afternoon, falling 7-0. The loss drops ORU to 0-2 (0-2 Southland Conference) on the season.

The Privateers (1-0, 1-0 SLC) eked out close victories on all three doubles courts. Ricardo Campos and Hossam Meligy took the top flight, 8-3, over Fabian Zierleyn and Jason Mechali, and Parker Allen teamed with Braxton Bates to fall in the second flight, 8-5, to Abdelrahman Zaki and Rui Silva. The third flight was a win by Chris Applegren and Vasco Leitao, 8-3, over Nathaniel Avery and Pedro Moreno.

The Golden Eagles stayed close in all six singles matches, but could not earn a point. Silva won the feature court match over Zierleyn, 7-5, 6-2, and Zaki knocked off Mechali on the second court, 6-0, 6-2.

In the third flight, Campos took down Allen by a 6-4, 6-2 count, and Meligy whacked Moreno on court four, 6-3, 6-3.

The bottom two courts were the most lopsided of the day. Appelgren won the fifth flight point from Bates, 6-1, 6-2, and Lovro Curcija beat Gabriel Kanelopoulos on court six, 6-0, 6-0.

ORU will return to action on Sunday, January 27, when they host Western Illinois. Match time is set for 7:30 pm CT.
