TULSA, Okla. – Defender Wayne Farmer came off the back line and became the hero on Tuesday as he put in the golden goal, helping the Oral Roberts University men‘s soccer team knock off John Brown, 1-0, in an exhibition contest.

Following a shot by Edgardo Mira that was blocked away by a JBU defender, Farmer put the ball in the back of the net from the right side in the 93rd minute of play.

Johnny Chavez and Marco Hernandez both led ORU with two shots on goal apiece, while Tom Adams and Matt Rogers joined Farmer with a shot on goal each. ORU outshot the visitors from JBU, 19-9.

Ben LaCourse started the second consecutive exhibition contest and recorded three saves. Isaac Sandoval, the keeper of record for ORU, entered the game to start the second half and recorded three saves as well, including a spectacular diving save off a shot from Will Simonds in the 75th minute.

Much like ORU, JBU had a combination of goalkeepers in Matt Henry and Adam Holt. Henry started the game and had three saves in the first half, while Holt also had three saves. Holt allowed the goal in overtime to earn the loss.

Martin Gonzalez led JBU with three shots, two of which were on goal.

ORU will play its final exhibition match of the season on Friday as they host Northeastern State at 7 p.m.
