TULSA, Okla. – Despite a battle for a full 90 minutes of action, the Oral Roberts University women’s soccer team was unable to convert in the final third of the field as the Golden Eagles fell to rival Tulsa on Friday, 2-0.
The loss was the first for the Golden Eagles (2-1) this season in three matches, while the Golden Hurricane moved to 4-1. ORU has not beaten TU since the 2007 season.
With the two squads taking only one shot each through the first 32 minutes, TU broke the scoreless tie in the 33rd minute. On a breakaway, Alexa Sidorakis was able to put the ball through the ORU backline, setting up Jordan O’Brien for an easy goal from straight away.
While the Golden Hurricane led the contest 1-0 at the break, ORU had the advantage much of the first half, holding a 6-3 shot advantage.
In the 60th minute, Camille Pelley followed a blocked shot in front of the net, just off the left post, and converted it for the insurance goal. Roman Edwards was credited with the assist on the play.
Helen Erb picked up three saves in her first loss of the season, including an incredible leaping save late in the second half to keep TU’s third goal out of the net. Hayley Harryman earned the victory for the visitors, recording one save.
ORU will look to rebound on Sunday afternoon at the Case Soccer Complex as they play host to Southwestern Oklahoma State at 1 p.m.
