TULSA, Okla. - Oral Roberts University dominated Southeastern Louisiana on Thursday night, 3-0, in their quickest and easiest Southland Conference victory of the 2013 season. With the win, ORU improves to 21-6 (13-4 SLC).

ORU took the three sets by scores of 25-11, 25-9 and 25-22. The Golden Eagles gave up just 42 points, the lowest total by an opposing team in SLC play this season and the second-lowest total of the full season, trailing Southern’s 33-point effort on August 31.

The Golden Eagles sported a balanced attack on Thursday night, hitting .364 as a club. Luara Rosa led the squad with nine kills, while Jovana Poljasevic and Sara Pope added eight kills apiece.

Laura Taylor, meanwhile, did a little bit of everything on Thursday night, finishing with seven kills, seven digs and 31 assists.

Defensively, Bruna Silva paced ORU with 13 digs. The Golden Eagles held Southeastern Louisiana to a -.010 hitting percentage, forcing 24 errors while conceding just 23 kills.

The Lady Lions (11-19, 4-13 SLC) were led by Tiffany Thomas, who recorded six kills. Libero Morgan Todd accumulated nine digs.

Oral Roberts grabbed control of the 1st set with an early 6-0 run, capped by a block from Poljasevic and Rosa, to take a 7-1 lead. The Golden Eagles finished the set by scoring seven straight points, capped by another Poljasevic block, this time combined with Nika Mostahinic, to win the frame, 25-11.

The 2nd set was even more lopsided. ORU scored the first five points of the period, capped by a Pope kill, and later a Poljasevic kill ended another 5-0 run and made the score 12-2. This time ORU scored the final eight points of the set, with consecutive SLU errors on the final two points giving the Golden Eagles a 25-9 win.

ORU started the 3rd set on a 7-0 run before the Lady Lions made it close. A 5-0 road team run, punctuated by a Mikayla Shippy ace, made the score 10-9, and later SLU tied the set at 20-all on a block from Thomas and Veronica Turk, But the Golden Eagles came alive down the stretch, with McKenna Qualls smoking an ace at the third match point to clinch the match, 25-22.

ORU is now 4-0 all-time against Southeastern Louisiana, with a season sweep in each of the last two seasons.

With the win, the Golden Eagles maintain a firm grip on the 4th spot in the Southland Conference standings.

With 21 wins on the season, the Golden Eagles are one victory away from matching the second-highest victory total of the Sheera Sirola Era. ORU won 26 matches under Sirola’s watch in 2006, and they tallied 22 wins in both 2005 and 2008.

ORU will host New Orleans on Saturday in their 2013 regular season finale. The Golden Eagles will honor seniors Sthephanie Mab, Jessica Pancratz, Luara Rosa, Bruna Silva and Laura Taylor prior to the match, which begins at 12:30 pm.
