TULSA, Okla. – The Oral Roberts University women’s soccer will play the first of two important Southland Conference matches this weekend as they host Nicholls State at the Case Soccer Complex on Friday at 7 p.m on Friday.

ORU (9-3, 4-1) enters the weekend in a first place tie with Stephen F. Austin and Southeastern Louisiana. The Golden Eagles will host SLU in the backside of the weekend home stand on Sunday at 1 p.m.

Last week, the Golden Eagles split the West Texas portion of its schedule has they dropped a 1-0 match at Incarnate Word on Friday, but rebounded on Sunday with a victory over Abilene Christian by the same tally. Kayla Keller scored the lone goal with an assist from Megan Giles.

Keller’s goal was her team-high sixth this season, equaling her total from 2012.

The shutout marked the third by Maddie Rhodes this season as she continues to impress between the posts. For the season, she had recorded 30 saves in 715 minutes.

Nicholls (9-2-1, 3-2) is one of the surprise teams in the Southland as they entered conference play undefeated. However, after winning their first three conference matches, the Colonels dropped their last two matches to UIW, 4-2, and Lamar, 2-1.

The Colonels enter the weekend as the top offensive team in the league. They are scoring 3.17 goals a match, and have outscored their opponents 38-15. Sophomore Spencer Valdespino is making an early case for SLC Player of the Year as she leads the league with 11 goals and 25 points. Freshmen Hannah Savoie and Miranda O’Neil, along with junior Lauren O’Brien, have netted four goals each this season.

In the only other meeting between the two programs, Giles picked up a golden goal 70 seconds into double-overtime for a 2-1 ORU victory in Thibodaux, La., on October 14, 2012. Jennifer Abernathy assisted on both goals, including the equalizer in the 52nd minute by Keller. Kristy Tatom gave the Colonels an early lead with a goal in the 6th minute.
