Chris Brown has made unbelievable
contributions to the Golden Eagle coaching staff since he was hired
away from UMKC seven years ago. He has done so by tutoring33
individuals to 46 conference championships in the long jump and the
triple jump over the past nine years. That mark is the most by any
coach in the 24-year history of the Mid-Con.
Brown's female
athletes have completely dominated the Mid-Con's triple jump
competition over the last eight years, winning every indoor title while
twice sweeping the competition's top four spots. He also led them to a
1-2-3-4 sweep in the women's long jump event at the 2006 Mid-Con
Outdoor Championships.
ORU has also
been successful on the men's side of things under Brown, most notably
sweeping the top three places in the decathalon competition at two
different Mid-Con Championship events.
Brown most
recently put thrower Rachel Talbert on the collegiate track scene, as
she claimed three top six finishes at the 2006 Junior Outdoor National
Championships. Talbert, the 2006 Mid-Con Outdoor Newcomer of the Year,
was also the NCAA's only female thrower to qualify for regional
competition in the shot put, discus, and javelin events.
Brown's
coaching succesful isn't limited to only Golden Eagle athletes either,
as Deandre Free, Marcia Daniel, and Sonya Ahmed have all had succesfull
careers under his tutorage. Thanks to Brown, Free, the world's
top-ranked junior long-jumper in 2000, has taken part the United States
Olympic Trials; Daniel has competed in the 200m dash at the1999 World
Championships and the 400m dash at the 2000 Olympic Games; and Ahmed
has become the Egyptian national record in pole vault.
Brown currently
resides in nearby Glenpool, Okla., with his wife, Chooi Lian Ning, and
their three year-old son, Zachary.
