NEW ORLEANS, La. – Oral Roberts senior Rachel Talbert was named a finalist for the 2010 Women’s Outdoor Midwest Region Field Athlete of the Year, the USTFCCCA announced on Wednesday.

Talbert is one of five finalists from the Midwest Region, joining Aja Evans (Illinois), Karen Shump (Oklahoma), Brittany Borman (Oklahoma) and La’Taish Brown (Wichita State). The awards will be announced on Friday.

The Newton, Kan., native had a remarkable outdoor season, racking up eight event wins, including three Summit League titles, and setting three school records. Talbert was named the Summit League Women’s Field Athlete of the Championships after totaling three wins and setting a new meet record in the discus throw.

Talbert qualified for the 2010 NCAA Outdoor Championships held in Eugene, Ore., in the discus event, which will begin on June 9. Talbert posted a mark of 54.54 meters in the discus to place second at the NCAA West Preliminary in Austin, Texas, over the weekend.

Talbert shattered her own school record in the discus at the Sooner May Open on May 8, posting a mark of 55.07 meters, which ranked fourth nationally heading into last weekend’s preliminaries.
