TULSA—Former Oral Roberts slugger Seth Furmanek has signed a minor league free agent contract with the Kansas City Royals, the club announced this week. A catcher and designated hitter for the Golden Eagles, the Royals signed Furmanek as a first baseman.

A two-time first-team All-Summit League selection, Furmanek completed his two-year ORU career earlier this month, batting .326 with a Summit League-record 25 home runs and 70 RBI in 59 games. He was named to the Summit’s all-tournament team and to the all-regional team at the NCAA Norman Regional.

In two seasons at ORU, Furmanek batted .329 with 42 home runs and 133 RBI in 107 games. His 42 homers are tied for first in Summit League history, and rank third all-time at ORU. He was the 2009 Summit League Newcomer of the Year.
