ELMHURST, Ill. – Marvin Bonde and Rachel Talbert were named Summit League Athletes of the Year on Thursday, as voted on by the league’s head coaches.

Bonde, the Male Track Athlete of the Year, earned his first-career USTFCCCA All-America honor after his seventh-place showing at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, finishing the 200-meter dash with a career-best time of 20.68. The junior from Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, also competed in the 100-meter dash at the NCAA Championships, placing 13th (10.37). Bonde swept the 100- and 200-meter events at The Summit League Championships, posting times of 10.44 and 21.28, respectively.

Talbert was named the Female Field Athlete of the Year after finishing third at the 2010 NCAA Outdoor Championships en route to her second-career USTFCCCA All-America accolades. The third-place showing in the discus throw (54.09 meters) tied for the second-highest showing at the Outdoor Championships in ORU history.

The Newton, Kan., native racked up eight event wins during the outdoor season and set three school records. Talbert was named the Summit League Women’s Field Athlete of the Championships after totaling three wins and setting a new meet record in the discus.

Bonde became the 10th Outdoor All-American at ORU and the 18th overall, while Talbert became the 13th Golden Eagle to earn multiple All-America honors. ORU has had two or more athletes earn All-America status in the same outdoor season four of the past five years.
