Track and Field Opens NCAA Preliminaries at Oregon

Eugene, OR-Oral Roberts was back at it Thursday afternoon in the NCAA Track and Field preliminaries hosted by the University of Oregon in Eugene, Oregon.

Opening up the action for ORU was Clive Chafausipo, who finished fourth in the long jump with a three-round best jump of 7.70m. Chafausipo turned in a 6.83m in jump #1 and a 7.20m in jump #2, before capping his performance with the 7.70m. Marquise Goodwin of Texas earned first in the event with a 7.97m, with Bryce Lamb of Texas Tech placing second (7.79m) and Tarik Batchelor of Arkansas snagging third (7.72m).

Next up for ORU was Jack Whitt, who placed tied for seventh in the overall pole vault standings, and was one of 10 athletes to jump a 5.20m.

Jeffery Gibson rounded out the list of top-finishers on Thursday, snagging sixth in the 400 meter hurdles with a 50.99. First place belonged to Amaechi Morton of Stanford who logged a 50.42, followed by Eric Bailey of Oklahoma who finished with a 50.57.
The top-12 finishers from each group will qualify for the NCAA Championships in Des Moines, Iowa on June 8-11.

Next up for the Golden Eagles will be Fredrick Brown who will compete in the triple jump, followed by the 4x400 team of Jeramy Roberts, Brandon Williams, Chafausipo and Gibson.
