FORT WORTH, Texas—Mark Guest tossed a complete game and Brandon King and Cam Schiller each homered as Oral Roberts defeated Dallas Baptist 7-2 on Sunday at Lupton Stadium, forcing a decisive winner-take-all Regional Championship game on Monday at 7 p.m.

A senior left-hander who entered the game with only 16 innings pitched on the season, Guest (2-0) scattered five hits and walked just two batters in the longest outing of his collegiate career. He retired 16 of the final 17 batters he faced, including the last 11.

Facing elimination for the third straight game, ORU (39-21) jumped on DBU starter Will Lane (3-1) for a pair of runs in the top of the first inning.  Consecutive two-out RBI singles by Cam Schiller and Jared Schlehuber gave the Golden Eagles a 2-0 lead.

In the third Chris Elder walked with one out and King followed with a towering drive to right field for a two-run homer. His ninth home run of the year gave the Golden Eagles a 4-0 lead.

The Patriots (41-18) chipped away at the lead by scoring single runs in the third and fourth innings. Ryan Behmanseh doubled home a run in the third and Duncan McAlpine had an RBI fielder’s choice in the fourth to make it a 4-2 game.

ORU added to its lead in the fifth when King singled to score Joey Winiecki for a 5-2 lead. ORU appeared ready to add to its lead but a 29-minute lightning delay derailed a two-on, one-out situation. After the delay Schiller and Schlehuber struck out to end the threat.

The delay, however, seemed to re-energize Guest. Over the final five innings he allowed just one baserunner, a two-out single by Joel Hutter in the fifth.

Schiller tacked on insurance runs for ORU in the eighth and ninth innings. The shortstop led off the eighth with a solo homer for a 6-2 lead and added a sacrifice fly in the ninth to make it a 7-2 game.

ORU managed just seven hits, but four of those drove in runs. King, Schiller and Schlehuber – the Nos. 4-6 batters in the order – combined to go 6-for-13 with seven RBI.

The winner of Monday night’s game will face either Baylor or Cal in Super Regionals next weekend.
