Wade Mason begins his second season as an assistant coach with the ORU men’s basketball team, having joined the staff on May 8, 2012. His main responsibilities include scouting, game preparation, on-court instruction, recruiting and working with the guards. In 2012-13, Mason's tutelage helped Warren Niles to first team all-conference and first team all-district honors.
In Mason’s first season on the ORU sidelines, he helped the Golden Eagles earn their first postseason victory since the 1974-75 season (at UT Arlington). ORU went on to advance to the third round of the CIT, finishing the season with a 20-15 record.
Mason is a native of New Orleans, La., and arrived in Tulsa after one season with the University of Oklahoma, where he worked with Coach Lon Kruger as a graduate assistant.
As a player, Mason played for the 1995 USA Today National Champion St. Augustine High School, then spent two seasons at Tyler Junior College, helping them earn the top national ranking during the 1996-97 season. He finished his playing career at Tulane University, helping the Green Wave to a Conference USA Division Championship and a berth in the NIT.
Mason earned a bachelor’s degree in media arts and business studies from Tulane in 2001. He has a daughter, Jaila, and a son, Wade III.
