Schiller, Pickar Selected in MLB Draft
Schiller posted a .306 batting average in 2012, with eight home runs and 51 RBI. A native of Prescott, Ariz., Schiller was a two-time All-Summit League selection and a Wallace Award watch list honoree. Schiller hit 15 home runs and collected 107 RBI over a memorable two-year career that included a pair of Summit League Championships and four NCAA Regional victories.
Potential destination spots for Schiller include the Spokane Indians, a Rangers rookie-level affiliate in the short-season Northwest League, or the Arizona League, where the Texas organization fields a team.
As a junior, Pickar has until July 13 to either accept Detroit’s offer or return to ORU for his senior season. The Eaton, Colo., native was one of ORU’s most improved players in 2012, raising his batting average over 100 points and hitting .296 for the campaign. He also hit a pair of home runs and racked up 33 RBI. The All-Summit League pick hit a grand slam and drove in six runs in a victory over IPFW on May 11, and he came through with a key RBI double in ORU’s NCAA Regional Victory over No. 4 Baylor last week.
The Tigers field a short-season club in the New-York Penn League, the Connecticut Tigers, and they also have a team in the Gulf Coast League.
ORU finished 38-25 in the recently-completed 2012 season. The Golden Eagles captured their 15th consecutive Summit League title and defeated No. 4 Baylor as part of a three-game run in the NCAA Division I Baseball Championship’s Waco Regional.
