CONWAY, Ark. - The Oral Roberts men's soccer team continues to search for its first win of the season after they fell on Monday afternoon at Central Arkansas, 3-0.
Sophomore defender Trevor Laffoon had the first scoring opportunity for the Golden Eagles just three minutes into the match, but the shot was saved the UCA keeper. In the tenth minute, the scoreless tie was broken with an own goal, giving the Bears and early 1-0 lead.
Following another goal by the Bears in the 35th minute, the Golden Eagles had another opportunity to cut the lead to one heading into intermission. Despite a good look at goal by freshman Chris Kroeze, it was to no avail and the first half ended in the home team's favor, 2-0.
The Golden Eagles again came out of the locker room looking to take the first punch on a shot on goal by Cody Lofgren that was knocked away. It was just several opportunities that were missed in the second stanza, as Kevin Machado and Kroeze both hit the high post.
Both Ryan Grashik and Daniel McCarthy saw time between the post for the Golden Eagles, with Grashik getting the start and being credited with the loss. Grashik picked up two saves in 81 minutes of action.
The match ended in the favor of the Bears, despite the Golden Eagles getting off two more shots when the time ran out. Lofgren ended the afternoon with four shots, while Kroeze and Laffoon added a pair, and Marco Hernandez, Griffith Pointdexter and Machado had a shot each.
For their play over the weekend, Tyler Hill and Laffoon were both named to the All-Tournament team.
It will be a short couple days before the Golden Eagles (0-3-0) travel to Nashville, Tenn., for a pair of matches in the Hyatt Place Select Lipscomb Invitational. ORU will face Belmont on Friday evening at 5 p.m. and the tournament host on Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
