Men's soccer heads to Nashville for tourney
TULSA, Okla. - The Oral Roberts men's soccer squad is set to face a pair of opponents it hasn't seen since the 2009 season as it is set to take part in the Hyatt Place Select Lipscomb Invitational in Nashville.
On Friday, the Golden Eagles (0-3-0) are scheduled to face Belmont (0-3-0) at 5 p.m. Belmont is coming off a heartbreaking loss on Sunday in double-overtime at Memphis, 2-1.
Despite the loss, Austin Embry was honored as the CollegeSportsMadness.com player of the week for NCAA Div. I Independents. A combo player in the midfield and defender positions, Embry earned an assist in a earlier week loss at Louisville.
The Golden Eagles haven't lost a game in seven matches with Belmont, each under the direction of head coach Steve Hayes.
The second game of the weekend for the ORU men is a battle with tournament host Lipscomb (1-3-0) at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday. Both the Golden Eagles and the Bison had similar opponents this past weekend at the Central Arkansas Soccer Invitational, with the Bison topping UCA on Saturday, 1-0, before falling to Missouri State by the same score on Monday.
Lipscomb picked up their only match victory against the Golden Eagles the last time the two met in the 2009 season opener.
