TULSA, Okla. - It was a disappointing start to the conference season for the Oral Roberts men's soccer team on Saturday night at the Case Soccer Complex as they fell to Summit League rival Oakland, 5-0.

The loss moves the Golden Eagles record to 1-7 on the season, 0-1 in Summit League play, while the Golden Grizzlies improved to 4-3. The Golden Eagles begin a three-match road trip on Friday in Fort Wayne, Ind., for a conference showdown with IPFW.

Recording the loss between the posts on Friday was Ryan Grashik who falls to 0-4 this season, picking up a save on a shot off the foot of Kyle Bethel in the 33rd minute of play. The freshman keeper allowed all five Oakland goals.

In the shot category of the box score, the two squads were almost even, as the Golden Grizzlies were able to get just one more off than the Golden Eagles 15 shots, including six that were on goal by each squad. A pair of keepers, Scott Messer and Eliott Tarney, tag teamed the shutout for the Golden Grizzles, each sending back three shots.

Tom Adams and Johnny Chavez both ended the game with two shots on goal, with Chavez taking both of his during the second stanza. Kevin Machado entered the game late in the contest, was unable to convert on a shot, while Cody Lofgren and Adams just missed chances in the first period.

The Golden Grizzlies scored the first two goals about a minute apart, with Johnny Dreshaj completing a goal set up by Raphael Reynolds just 10:26 into the match and Miche'le Lipari scored on a cross by Derek Nowak to put the Golden Grizzlies up 2-0.

In the 29th minute, Kyle Bethel placed the ball in front of a sprinting Lipari who finished off the goal for his fifth of the season.

The Golden Eagle defense buckled down the rest of the first period as the two squads entered the locker room with the visitors leading, 3-0.

Following a yellow card in the 60th minute, Lipari got into the action again, this time sending the ball into the box on a free kick, setting up a goal off the head of Jeff Cheslik. A little over ten minutes later, the Golden Grizzlies put the nail in the coffin with a goal by Gavin Hoy, with Madd Dudley getting credit for the assists.
