ORU Continues Road Swing at Nicholls State

Oral Roberts (9-12, 5-5 Southland Conference) has another shot to move over .500 in league play after wiping out Southeastern Louisiana, 3-1, on Thursday night. Sheina Fernandes paced the Golden Eagles with 13 kills and four blocks, while Jessica Pancratz chipped in 12 kills.
Defensively, Bruna Silva’s 25 digs led all players.
The victory was the first of the year for ORU on the road, and it gave Sheera Sirola’s team their first season sweep of the season over an SLC opponent.
With her stellar performance on Thursday, Silva has retaken the SLC lead in digs. The junior has tallied 5.11 digs per set through ORU’s first 21 matches.
Nicholls (9-13, 4-7 SLC) fell to SLC-leading Central Arkansas on Thursday, 3-0. Sarah Terry led the Colonels with nine kills in the loss, while Jennifer Brandt added seven.
ORU dominated the Colonels on September 22 in Tulsa, 3-0. Fernandes and Tatum Fredeen each launched 11 kills in the victory, while Silva and Luara Rosa each had a team-best 14 digs. ORU hit .317 in the match, including a .481 hitting percentage during a 25-7 second-set rampage.
With the win, ORU improved to 3-0 all-time against Nicholls.
Golden Eagle Head Coach Sheera Sirola enters Saturday’s match with a 179-123 career record in nine-plus seasons as a collegiate coach, while Patrick Hiltz of Nicholls is 9-13 in his first season.
Following Saturday’s match, ORU will return home to play three home contests in a five-day stretch. The home swing kicks off on Tuesday, October 23 with a return trip from Central Arkansas. Match time is booked for 7 pm CT at the Kenneth H. Cooper Aerobics Center.
