A live video broadcast of the game is available on ORUGoldenEagles.com. Live radio coverage of the game is available on KYAL-AM 1550 in Tulsa and around the world at ORUGoldenEagles.com. Coverage begins at 6:45 pm CT and Geoff Haxton handles the play-by-play.
ORU enters the game with a 0-1 exhibition record after falling to Harding University, 68-54, on Monday, November 29 at the Mabee Center. ORU used a 13-0 run to cut Harding’s lead to 51-47 with 6:23 remaining, but junior guard Kevi Luper fouled out just 19 seconds later. Harding countered with a 13-0 run of their own and the contest was never in doubt again.
Luper led ORU with 21 points and was the only Golden Eagle in double-figures. Sarah Shelton and Savanna Buck each led the Golden Eagles with six rebounds, while Luper and Elisabeth Daniels each had a team-best three assists.
Including Shelton, who tallied four points, three Golden Eagles made their ORU debuts against Harding. Taylor Cooper started and scored three points, while Krisztina Velkey added four points.
The setback was the first for ORU (exhibition or otherwise) against a non-NCAA Division I opponent since a 66-63 loss to East Texas Baptist on February 7, 1994.
Oklahoma Baptist went 15-15 in 2011-12, with an 11-11 record in the Sooner Athletic Conference. OBU fell in their exhibition opener, 94-52, to Central Oklahoma on October 30 in Shawnee, Okla.
Newcomer Jalissa Council led the Bison with 12 points in the loss, while fellow newcomer Janell Beacham scored 11 points. Oklahoma Baptist shot just 26.3% (15-of-57) against UCO and committed 32 turnovers.
OBU’s leading returning scorer from their 2011-12 team is sophomore Charity Fowler, who averaged 8.4 ppg and shot 30.5% from the floor in her freshman season.
The Bison face Columbia College on Thursday, November 1 before taking on the Golden Eagles on Saturday.
First-year OBU Head Coach Casi Bays spent the past two years as OBU’s top assistant coach prior to taking over the head spot this season. ORU's Misti Cussen is also in her first season as Head Coach.
Following the OBU exhibition, the Golden Eagles turn their attention to regular season play, which begins on Friday, November 9 against Tulsa. The Mayor’s Cup clash is scheduled for 7 pm CT at the Mabee Center.
