ORU Caps Road Trip at Lamar
ORU (13-13, 9-6 Southland Conference) hammered McNeese State on Thursday night, 3-0, in the first leg of their two-part road trip. Sadie Schaffner notched a team-high 12 kills for the Golden Eagles, who hit a blistering .316 on the night.
Tatum Fredeen added nine kills in the victory, while Joana Gruber chipped in seven.
Defensively, Bruna Silva led ORU with 10 digs, while Sheina Fernandes tallied five total blocks.
The victory was ORU’s third straight road win and fifth win overall in six matches.
With a victory on Saturday, Sheera Sirola’s team would move over the .500 mark for the first time since September 4, when a loss to Tulsa dropped the Golden Eagles to 4-4.
Lamar (10-19, 2-13 SLC) lost to Central Arkansas on Thursday night, 3-0. Wendy Krell and Courtney Moore each notched 11 kills to lead the Cardinals in a losing effort.
LU opened the season with a 6-4 record but has lost 12 of their last 13 matches.
ORU is 7-5 all-time against Lamar, including a 3-0 win over the Cardinals on October 4. Gruber tallied 10 kills and eight assists in the victory, while Laura Taylor had six kills and 32 assists.
Head Coach Justin Gilbert is 112-132 in his eighth season at Lamar. ORU's Sheera Sirola is 183-124 in her tenth year leading the Golden Eagles.
Following Saturday’s match, the Golden Eagles return home on Thursday, November 8 to face Stephen F. Austin. First serve at the Kenneth H. Cooper Aerobics Center is scheduled for 7 pm CT.
