ORU Opens Final Home Stand with Stephen F. Austin
ORU is 14-13 (10-6 Southland Conference) after sweeping McNeese State and Lamar on the road last week. Sadie Schaffner tallied a team-high 12 kills in the McNeese win, while Joana Gruber led the Golden Eagles with nine kills in the victory over the Cardinals.
Bruna Silva tallied 18 combined digs over the two matches to lead the Golden Eagles. Silva is now tied for first in the SLC at 5.07 digs per set.
As a team, the Golden Eagles lead the SLC with 2.74 blocks per set and rank second in the conference with a .202 team hitting percentage.
ORU now ranks 5th in the SLC standings with a 10-6 league record. The Golden Eagles are just a half-game behind Texas A&M-Corpus Christi for the 4th spot in the league, and they could finish as high as 3rd with two wins this weekend.
Regardless of this week’s performance, ORU has clinched a Southland Conference Tournament berth and will enter the postseason tournament with no lower than the No. 6 seed.
Stephen F. Austin has lost two of their last three Southland Conference matches and sits at 19-10 (9-6 SLC) heading into this week’s action.
The Ladyjacks swept by Northwestern State on Friday, November 2 in Natchitoches, La. Jill Ivy led SFA with seven kills in the loss, but she also tallied eight errors.
Despite the rough outing against Northwestern State, Ivy leads the Ladyjacks and ranks 6th in the Southland Conference at 3.12 kills per set.
The Ladyjacks host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on November 6 in their 2012 home finale before traveling to Tulsa two days later.
Head Coach Debbie Humphreys is in her 25th season as Stephen F. Austin’s head coach, with a record of 553-277. She has led SFA to seven Southland Conference titles and four NCAA Tournaments.

The Golden Eagles are 4-1 all-time against Stephen F. Austin. ORU fell to the Ladyjacks in their last meeting, 3-0, on September 27. Tatum Fredeen had 12 kills to pace the Golden Eagles in defeat, while Ivy led all players with 14 kills.
ORU will close the 2012 regular season and honor their senior class on Saturday, November 10 when they host Northwestern State. First serve at the Cooper Aerobics Center is booked for 3 pm CT.
