ORU Hosts Evangel in TTCU Field Trip Game

Oral Roberts (2-3) fell in overtime to Missouri State, 73-72, on November 29, 2012 in Springfield, Mo ORU held leads of 54-44 with 8:17 left and 65-60 with 1:08 left but could not hold off the Bears, who scored the final five points of regulation.
Kevi Luper scored a season-high 40 points in the loss, going 14-for-32 from the field, 4-for-9 from three-point range and 8-for-8 from the free throw line. Luper’s 40-point night was her first since scoring 41 at North Dakota State on February 4, 2012, the night she broke the Summit League’s career scoring record.
Fellow senior Jaci Bigham had one of her best nights of the season in a losing effort, with 15 points and nine assists. Savanna Buck continued her strong play on the glass, with a career-high 14 rebounds.
Luper, Bigham and freshman Taylor Cooper each played all 45 minutes in the loss, setting new career highs.
Evangel is 2-4 overall as of November 30, with a 1-0 record in Heart of America Athletic Conference play. The Crusaders won their conference opener, a 63-57 win over Central Methodist on November 29.
Senior Sierra McSpadden scored 24 points in the victory over Central Methodist, going 8-for-10 from the field and 5-for-6 from three-point range. McSpadden is shooting 55.4% from the floor through six games and leads the Crusaders with 19.2 points per game. She is also a 48.0% three-point shooter and averages a team-best 8.0 rebounds per game.
Evangel Head Coach Leon Neal is in his 19th season at Evangel, with a record of 393-203. He is a six-time HAAC Coach of the Year and has led Evangel to two NAIA Final Four appearances.
ORU's Misti Cussen is 2-3 in her first season leading the Golden Eagles.
Oral Roberts is 5-1 all-time against Evangel in official regular season games, with all six contests taking place at the Mabee Center.
ORU’s last meeting with Evangel came in an unofficial exhibition contest, on October 27, 2011 at the Mabee Center. The Golden Eagles won the exhibition, 109-65. Among current Golden Eagles, Luper scored a game-high 17 points in the win.
Following the Evangel matchup, the Golden Eagles open a six-game road trip on Wednesday, December 12, when they face defending national champion Baylor. Tip-off in Waco, Texas is scheduled for 6 pm CT.
