ORU Faces Sam Houston in First Place Battle

ORU (7-8, 4-1 SLC) rallied for victory on Thursday night, taking down Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, 58-41. Junior Christian Key was the difference for the Golden Eagles, scoring a career-best 21 points on a night when ORU shot just 38.6% from the floor.
Redshirt junior Sarah Shelton was also in double-figures, with 11 points, while Jaci Bigham added nine points and seven assists.
With the win, ORU improved to 4-1 and moved to first place in the Southland Conference, a position they share with Lamar, Central Arkansas and Sam Houston State.
Sam Houston State is 8-9 on the season and earned their spot at the top of the table with a 64-48 victory over previously-unbeaten Central Arkansas on Thursday night.
Britini Martin overcame a 4-for-15 shooting performance to score a team-best 18 points in the Central Arkansas win. She is averaging a team-high 17.4 points per game.
Inside force Sequeena Thomas grabbed 14 rebounds in the win over UCA and leads the SLC with 12.5 rebounds per game.
SHSU Head Coach Brenda Welch-Nichols is 68-124 in her sixth season at Sam Houston, with a 200-272 record in her 17th season overall.
ORU's Misti Cussen is 7-8 in her first year leading the Golden Eagles.
Oral Roberts is 3-2 all-time against Sam Houston State, with a 1-2 record in Huntsville, Texas and a 2-0 record at the Mabee Center in Tulsa.
ORU last played the Bearkats on November 30, 2009, earning a 101-85 victory in Huntsville. Playing in just the fifth game of her collegiate career, Kevi Luper scored 29 points in the win. Jaci Bigham added eight points and 12 assists, while Savanna Buck scored nine points.
ORU returns home to start a season-long four-game home stand on Thursday, January 24, when they host Lamar. Tipoff at the Mabee Center is scheduled for 5 pm CT.
