Gibson resets 400 meter hurdle record at Texas Relays
AUSTIN, Texas – Senior sprinter Jeffery Gibson made a statement over the weekend at one of the largest meets in the nation at the 2013 Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays in Austin, setting a new school record.
Competing in the 400 meter hurdles, Gibson ran past his old school record set last season to a second place finish with a time of 50.26, just behind Michael Stigler of Kansas. The Bahamas native easily surpassed his previous school record of 50.69 set on April 21, 2012.
Also bringing home a second place medal from the Texas Relays was pole vaulter Lauren McFarland. The junior cleared 4.01 (13-1.75), giving her a top 20 jump in the nation this season, and her collegiate best.
Jack Whitt added a top five finish to his already impressive resume over the weekend with the fifth best jump of 5.61 meters (18-4.75), his collegiate top mark in outdoor competition.
Sophomore Samantha Watson earned a top ten finish in the always tough Steeplechase with a time of 10:55.57, placing her eighth in the event.
Oral Roberts’ athletes return to Texas on April 6 as they head to Lubbock to take part in the Texas Tech Open.
