STILLWATER, Okla. - Oral Roberts University ended their 2013 campaign on Friday afternoon in Stillwater with a 7-0 loss to Oklahoma State. The loss drops ORU to 3-16 to close out Mark Milner’s first season as coach.

The Cowboys (12-12) got the day started by winning both completed doubles matches. On the second court, Oleksiy Arovin and Rifat Biktyakov downed Parker Allen and Nathaniel Avery, 8-2. In the third flight, Brady Bohrnstedt teamed with Brandon Champagne for an 8-3 victory over Gabriel Kanelopoulos and Braxton Bates.

The closest match of the day took place at No. 1 singles, where Fabian Zierleyn was narrowly edged by Biktyakov, 7-5, 7-6 (7-4). The other five singles courts were easy Cowboy wins.

On court two, Denys Pume was a 6-1, 6-2 winner over Jason Mechali. Richard Del Nunzio took a 6-3, 6-3 win over Allen for the third flight victory, while Bohrnstedt took down Bates on the fourth court, 6-0, 6-2. On court five, Arovin beat Avery, 6-0, 6-1, and Trevor Horstmann ended the day with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Kanelopoulos at the No. 6 spot.

Despite the final record of 3-16, ORU showed marked improvement as a program in 2013. Milner’s squad won 41 individual matches this season, well ahead of the 12 they won in 2012. Leading the way was Zierleyn, who captured eight singles matches and six doubles matches.
