Golden Eagle men travel to SMU for exhibition match
TULSA, Okla. – A new era of Oral Roberts University men’s soccer will begin on Sunday as first-year Head Coach Ryan Bush will lead the Golden Eagles into their first exhibition match of the season as they travel to face SMU in Dallas. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
Bush took over a team that finished seventh in the Summit League in 2012 with a 4-13 overall record and 2-5 mark in conference play. Sunday will be a great opportunity in the development of the Golden Eagles as they will face a Mustang team that qualified for the NCAA Tournament last season with a 10-5-5 overall record, earning the Conference USA regular season championship with a 6-2 mark.
Returning for the Golden Eagles are all but one of the goal scorers from last season, including junior Tom Adams who led the squad with five goals and leading assistant Gerardo Salas. ORU returns 23 letter winners from last season’s team, while adding three key transfers in Ben LaCourse, Wayne Farmer and Jordan Cuckler.
The Mustangs are protected between the posts by senior keeper Jaime Ibarra, the 2012 Co-Player of the Year in the C-USA. Ibarra recorded four shutouts last season, while holding a 0.75 goals against average. Despite losing their leading scorer, the Mustangs do return the second highest points earner in Andrew Morales who converted four goals and four assists.
SMU is led by last season’s C-USA Coach of the Year, Tim McClements.
