FRISCO, Texas - The Oral Roberts University volleyball team placed three Golden Eagles on the 2013 Preseason All-Southland Conference Team, which was announced today by the league office. Headlining the list is 2012 SLC Libero of the Year Bruna Silva, while fellow seniors Jessica Pancratz and Laura Taylor were also 1st Team selections.

Silva, a senior from Niteroi, Brazil, is a two-time conference player of the year after also taking the Summit League’s top defensive honor in 2011. The ORU libero led the Southland Conference in digs last season, with 5.22 per set. She enters the 2012 season with 1,629 digs for her collegiate career, 2nd-most in Golden Eagle program history.

Pancratz, a Tulsa native, led the Southland Conference and finished 25th in the NCAA Division I ranks with 1.36 blocks per set last season. She also added 1.87 kills per set in 2012, tops among ORU returners, and she has increased her output in kills, digs and blocks in each of her first three collegiate seasons. This is the first career all-conference nod for the middle blocker.

Taylor, a Broken Arrow native and Union High School alumnus, was an honorable mention All-Southland selection in 2012 after averaging 9.91 assists per set, 5th-best in the league. The versatile setter also tallied 1.11 kills per set last season and hit .303 in SLC matches, 6th-best in the conference. She enters the year with 2,903 career assists, 4th in the ORU record books.

ORU and Central Arkansas are the only squads in the 14-team conference to place three players on the 12-member 1st Team. Tomorrow, the league will announce their preseason polls.

Head Coach Sheera Sirola’s team opens their 2013 campaign on Friday, August 30 in Houston, Texas against Texas Southern.
