TULSA, Okla. – A familiar foe visits the Case Soccer Complex on Friday as the Oral Roberts University women’s soccer team plays host to Kansas City. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
The two programs began the season with victories as the Golden Eagles got a goal from Mary-Kate Halsmer in the 88th minute at Missouri State. Megan Giles put in the first goal of the match for the Golden Eagles at MSU in the 67th minute and also added the assist on Halsmer goal for the 2-1 victory.
UMKC picked up home victories over SIU-Edwardsville, 1-0, and Southeast Missouri State, 2-1.
Together in the Summit League for three years, ORU holds a 2-1-1 series lead over the Kangaroos. Last season, the match in Kansas City ended in a scoreless tie. The contest was the first of nine shutouts for Helen Erb between the posts and Jennifer Abernathy led ORU with four shots, all of which were on goal. UMKC keeper Nina Tzianos highlighted the ‘Roos box score with six saves.
Senior Taylor Bare led UMKC last season with six goals, while Hannah Chadick added three goals and three assists. Bare put in the equalizer in the victory last weekend against SEMO, with Ashley Gann scoring the game-winner. Scoring the lone goal against SIUE was freshman Emily Herndon.
With the two victories, including the shutout over SIUE, Tzianos was named the WAC Defensive Player of the Week.
