Memphis on tap for ORU men on Sunday
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Oral Roberts University men’s soccer team continues to inch toward its first victory of the season as the Golden Eagles face the University of Memphis on Sunday at 1 p.m.
Both teams are coming off 1-0 contests on Friday night as the Golden Eagles (0-3) dropped a tight match at Central Arkansas and the Tigers (2-1) squeaked out a victory over Kansas City. Gerardo Salas led ORU against the Bears with three shots, while Jordan Klipsch put in the lone goal for the Tigers.
The Tigers have scored a single goal in each match, coming from three different players. Will Linder and Scott Dunwell have also scored for the Tigers.
Memphis finished the 2012 season with a 8-7-3 overall record. The leading returner for the Tigers is Mark Sherrod, who led the squad last season with 12 goals and added four assists. The Tigers lost just four of their 30 goals scored last season.
ORU trails the overall series between the programs 2-6. However, the Golden Eagles were victorious in the last meeting in 2010.
