TULSA, Okla. – In the second meet of the season, the Oral Roberts University cross country teams set a number of personal bests, including five of six runners on the men’s side at the 6k distance. The women’s team faced a 4k race for the first time this year.
The meet was scored as duels, with the men falling 45-18 to Wichita State, and 37-22 to Kansas State. The ORU women fell 45-18 to Omaha, 50-15 to Kansas State and 50-14 to Wichita State.
Jonathan Harper’s sophomore year started well as he set another personal best to finish third overall at 19:21.70. David Batchelder ran 20:13.50 to claim 12th and Matt Bannon ran a personal best 20:23.30 for 17th, more than a minute off his 6k time from a week ago. Leif Peterson (21:25.90) and Ryan Masey (21:52.40) finished 24th and 25th, respectively, while John Bradford’s time of 23:10.70 put him in 29th.
On the women’s side, the Golden Eagles were without top runner Samantha Watson, who took the individual championship in the opening meet of the season. Freshman Abby Hoover stepped up and claimed 16th overall with a 15:15.74 time on the 4k course. Megan Denzin finished 38th in 18:11.50, and the final four all finished in a pack. Cat Klarich (20:12.42) led the way in 42nd, followed by Grace Fuentes (21:59.04, 43rd), Gabrielle Garza (24:37.82, 44th) and Kirsten Burnett (27:01.55, 45th).
The Golden Eagles will compete for the third time in as many weeks as they travel to Texas Tech on Friday night.
