TULSA, Okla. – Fresh off their first win of the season, the Oral Roberts University men’s soccer team will be back in action at home on Wednesday evening as the Golden Eagles host Missouri State at 6 p.m.

Last week, ORU (1-4-1) finished in a scoreless draw with Mid-America Christian, the first Golden Eagle tie since weather ended a home match early against Kansas City on Oct. 22, 2011. The Golden Eagles then earned their first win of the season on Friday with a 2-1 victory over Rogers State.

Missouri State has started the 2013 season strong as the Bears enter Wednesday’s match with the Golden Eagles at 4-1-1. On Saturday, the Bears finished in a scoreless draw with Xavier at home. The other five MSU matches have finished with a one-goal differential.

The Bears received a first place vote in the Missouri Valley Preseason Poll, but were picked to finish fifth in the conference. Junior defender James Fawke was listed on the conference’s Preseason All-Conference team.

Goalkeeper Trevor Spangenberg has played a huge role in the early season success for MSU as he has picked up 14 saves on the year and recorded three shutouts in six starts. Sophomore Emmerich Hoegg leads the team with two goals, both of which were game-winners.

MSU has won the last three meetings between the two programs, including a 1-0 victory over the Golden Eagles last season. Matt Bray scored the lone goal in the match, just before the game was called due to weather in the area. The Bears lead the overall series, 12-3-2.
