TULSA, Okla. – The Case Soccer Complex plays host to one of its most important matches to date as the Oral Roberts University women’s soccer team faces Southeastern Louisiana at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
Following Friday night’s slate of Southland Conference matches, ORU (10-3-0, 5-1-0) and SLU (10-2-1, 5-1-0) are locked in a three-way tie for first with Stephen F. Austin. On Friday, the Golden Eagles got a pair of goals from Kayla Keller to top Nicholls State, 3-1, and the Lions took care of business in Conway, Ark., as they were victorious over Central Arkansas, 2-1.
Keller continues to put together a great season as her eight goals scored are the most by a Golden Eagle since Maria Grados scored nine in 2009. With 14 career goals, the sophomore Keller is just two away from entering the top ten in program history in goals scored.
If the season ended on Friday, sophomore keeper Maddie Rhodes would have recorded the third best save percentage in a single season at ORU as she has saved nearly 84 percent of the opponent’s shots. She is 6-2 this season with a total of 36 saves.
Picked to finish fourth by the conference coaches’ in the preseason poll, the Lions have shown they are a team to be reckoned with in the league. SLU’s lone conference loss came on Sept. 29 as they fell to Abilene Christian, 0-1.
The Lion defense has only allowed three goals through six conference contests, the second fewest in the SLC behind SFA. Freshman goalkeeper Hope Sabadash leads the conference in save percentage at .910, and has allowed just six goals in 1130 minutes between the posts this season.
Sophomore forward Casey Peacock leads the Lions with seven goals this season, while Preseason All-Southland Second Team midfielder Kelsey Salcido has netted six goals.
The Lions shutout the Golden Eagles last season at the Case Soccer Complex, 2-0, in the first meeting between the two programs.
