ORU Powers Past McNeese, 3-0
Oral Roberts (15-4, 7-2 Southland Conference) dispatched of the Cowgirls by scores of 26-24, 25-18 and 25-20.
Sara Pope was once again ORU’s top threat, posting a team-high 15 kills. Jessica Pancratz added 10 kills and Luara Rosa had eight for the Golden Eagles.
Defensively, Bruna Silva’s 16 digs set the standard, while Jovana Poljasevic was strong at the net with two solo blocks and seven total.
Malina Sanchez led the Cowgirls (12-12, 5-6 Southland Conference) with nine kills. McNeese has lost their last four matches.
McNeese scored seven straight points early in the 1st set, including four errors by the Golden Eagles, to take a 9-3 lead. But the road side fought back to tie the set at 13-all on a Pancratz kill, and it was the senior who killed off McNeese’s set point when they had ORU down, 24-23. The Golden Eagles took the next two points for a 26-24 opening set victory.
Pope started a five-point rally early in the 2nd set, staking ORU to an 8-3 lead, and the Golden Eagles never looked back. McNeese could never push past ORU, and home team attack errors on the final two points gave the Golden Eagles a 25-18 win.
ORU gradually wore McNeese down in the 3rd set, never trailing but also never leading by more than six points. A Pope kill gave the Golden Eagles a commanding 20-14 lead, and a combined blocked by Rosa and Pancratz at match point ended the match with ORU on top, 25-20.
ORU is now 4-0 all-time against McNeese State and has won 20 of our last 21 matches in the state of Louisiana.
The Golden Eagles return home on Thursday, October 24 to host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Match time at the Kenneth H. Cooper Aerobics Center is scheduled for 7 pm CT.
