Mammoth Road Trip Concludes at Lamar
Oral Roberts (18-5, 10-3 Southland Conference) is fresh off of their most important victory of the season, a 3-0 road sweep of SLC contender Sam Houston State. Sara Pope tallied her first double-double of the season, with 13 kills and 14 digs, while Laura Taylor followed suit with 10 digs and 34 assists.
Defense was a major factor in the win, as ORU held the Bearkats to a .022 hitting percentage. Bruna Silva paced the Golden Eagles with 23 digs, a season-high for a three-set match, while Jovana Poljasevic came up with five total blocks.
The win keeps ORU within striking distance of a top seed in the Southland Conference Tournament, which is just three weeks away. Central Arkansas leads the league at 13-0, while Sam Houston and Northwestern State are 11-2. The Golden Eagles sit 4th, at 10-3.
Pope remains the lone Southland Conference player to average more than three kills per set and carry a hitting percentage over .300. The junior from Jenks ranks 3rd in the league with 3.72 kills per set and is 6th in the conference with a .301 hitting percentage.
Silva continues to rank 2nd in the Southland in digs, with 5.19 per set, while Jessica Pancratz places 2nd in the conference with a hitting percentage of .349.
Lamar (8-17, 6-7 SLC) was swept by Central Arkansas on Thursday night, their third consecutive loss. Sierra Whitaker led the Lady Cardinals with eight kills in the defeat, and for the season she ranks 5th in the Southland with 3.53 kills per set.
The Lady Cardinals have struggled offensively as a whole this season, however, as they rank 10th in the conference with a .156 hitting percentage and 12th with 10.98 kills per set.
ORU is 8-5 all-time against Lamar, with a pair of three-set victories last year. Taylor racked up six kills, five digs and 22 assists in a November 3, 2012 win in Beaumont, ORU's most recent meeting with the Lady Cards.
The Golden Eagles return home on Saturday, November 9 for a huge clash with Central Arkansas. First serve at the Aerobics Center is booked for 2 pm CT.
