ORU Faces Tulsa in PSO Mayor's Cup Rivalry

ORU (1-3) is looking to snap a three-game losing streak after falling to Navy, 89-64, on Friday night at the Mabee Center. Alexus Wilson had a fine game in the loss, with a career-high 17 points, while Christian Key came up with 15 points. ORU put forth one of their best offensive performances of the young season against the Midshipmen, with a 44.2% shooting percentage and only 12 turnovers.
Four Golden Eagles reached double-figures in the Navy game, with Jenni Bryan scoring a career-high 13 points and Kaylan Mayberry adding 11. Sarah Shelton led ORU’s rebounding effort, with eight boards.
Key averages a team-high 12.5 points per game through four outings, while Mayberry averages 12.0 points per game and Wilson checks in at 11.3. Shelton leads ORU rebounders with 9.8 boards per game, a mark that ranks 4th in the Southland Conference.
Tulsa is 2-1 after a pair of victories by the slimmest or margins. The Golden Hurricane bested Lamar, 68-67, on November 17, and they edged Western Michigan, 60-59, on Friday night. Ashley Clark leads Tulsa with 14.7 points per game while Kadan Brady adds 10.3 points/
Tuesday’s matchup is a battle of two NCAA Tournament teams from a season ago. ORU won the Southland Conference Tournament and earned a 15-seed in the Big Dance, where they fell to Tennessee, 83-62. Tulsa earned a 16-seed after winning Conference USA and they lost to Stanford, 72-56, in the First Round
ORU was the better team in last season’s PSO Mayor’s Cup game, when they earned a 64-53 win at the Mabee Center. Kevi Luper led all players with 23 points in the victory, while Shelton led active Golden Eagles with five points. Clark paced the Golden Hurricane in the game with 12 points.
With the win, ORU improved to 29-7 all-time against Tulsa, with wins in five of the last seven seasons.
The Golden Eagles return home on Saturday, November 30 to face UALR. Tip time at the Mabee Center is booked for 3 pm CT.
