ORU Loses Late Night Affair to SDSU, 4-3

TULSA, Okla. - Oral Roberts University stayed up late on Saturday night but could not overcome South Dakota State, as they were edged out by the Jackrabbits, 4-3, in a match that finished up just before midnight. ORU is now 0-2 on the season.

The Golden Eagles got off on the right foot by winning the doubles point. Fabian Zierleyn and Jason Mechali won on court one, 6-4, over Andrea Boglic and Parker Lawley. In the third flight, Braxton Bates and Michael Sosnowski clinched the point with a 6-3 win over Lovro Curcija and Lucas Pereira.

The Jackrabbits won the match, however, by scoring four of the six doubles points. Boglic took down Amar Saletovic on the top court, 6-4, 6-5, while Zierleyn countered with a 6-4, 4-6, 6-5 victory over Lawley. In the third flight, Curcija scored a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Mechali.

Parker Allen won the fourth flight for ORU, 6-0, 6-3, over Henrique Pereira, but SDSU took the final two flights. Mateus Moreira beat Cole Guy on court five, 6-4, 6-3, and the sixth flight belonged to SDSU’s Gary Notkin, 6-3, 2-6, 6-5 over Sosnowski.

The Golden Eagles continue their hunt for a victory on February 1, when they face UT-Pan American.
