No. 28 Tulsa Tops Oral Roberts, 7-0
TULSA, Okla. – Oral Roberts University fell to 28th-ranked Tulsa in their 2014 spring opener, 7-0, on Saturday evening at the Case Tennis Center. ORU is now 0-1 on the season.
The Golden Hurricane (1-0) started the day with three doubles wins. Melanie Marlin and Marizanne Bouwer fell to Samantha Vickers and Isaura Enrique, 6-1, while Haley Martin and Ximena Puentes lost to Maria Sant’Anna and Dobby Leenabanchong, 6-0. In the third flight, Nika Munoz and Mairead Cleary were beaten by Renata Kuricova and Yelena Nemchen, 6-0.
In the top singles match, Martin was stopped by Vickers, 6-1, 6-1, and Bouwer lost on court two to Saana Saarteinen, 6-0, 6-1. Marlin dropped the third flight to Marcelina Cichon, 6-0, 6-0, and Puentes fell to Kuricova by the same score on court four.
In the fifth flight, Leenabanchong topped Cleary, 6-1, 6-1 and Carol Benito swept Munoz on court six, 6-0, 6-0.
ORU’s next match is on February 1, when they face Grambling.
