TULSA - The ORU Department of Athletics will team up with the Tulsa Dream Center to help with a food drive at the men’s and women’s basketball games during Homecoming Weekend on Saturday, February 13, against IUPUI. The community outreach effort is part of the Summit League’s second annual “Food Fight” food-drive initiative. All students, alumni and fans attending the games are being asked to generously donate canned foods to the Tulsa Dream Center at the game.
In conjunction with Students Team Up To Fight Hunger (STUFH), 20 Summit League basketball games have been designated as "Food Fight" games where league institutions collect food donations. Last year, Oakland claimed the initial "Food Fight" title by raising nearly 4,300 lbs. of food. Overall, the nine participating league schools combined to raise the equivalent of nearly 15,000 lbs.
The women’s basketball game will start at 2 p.m., and the men will tip-off at 7 p.m. Canned foods will be collected at both games. Tickets are available by calling (918) 495-6000 or visiting www.orugoldeneagles.com.
The Tulsa Dream Center has established a warehouse and food pantry to supply families with food. The food collected at the games will help with the Tulsa Dream Center’s food service and distribution program. The Tulsa Dream Center food distribution program provides food baskets to well over 800 families a month. The food service program provides a hot meal every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday to families.
Contact Mike Minyard, Director of Marketing/Ticket Sales, at (918) 495-7213 or firstname.lastname@example.org for more information about the food drive. More information on the Tulsa Dream Center can be found at tulsadreamcenter.org.
