TULSA, Okla.-The Oral Roberts men's basketball program has added Wade Mason as an assistant coach, it was announced by Head Coach Scott Sutton on Monday. Mason brings more than eight years of coaching experience to the Golden Eagles.
"I'm elated," said Mason. "Being at OU I've grown attached to the state of Oklahoma. I'm looking forward to this move. The staff is great and similar to OU in that it is a family atmosphere and Coach Sutton and Coach Kruger are both terrific mentors. It is a perfect fit. I'm excited to get on campus and start working hard to continue the winning tradition at ORU."
Mason has most recently served as a graduate assistant under Lon Kruger at the University of Oklahoma. Prior to that, he was an assistant coach for three different AAU teams, including the New Orleans Fleur De Lis, the Dallas Spartans and the Georgia Stars.
"I am excited about adding Wade to our staff," said Sutton. "He will bring with him a great recruiting connection in Texas and Louisiana, which will help tremendously with our move to the Southland Conference. He has worked for some of the best AAU coaches, and last year worked with one of the best college coaches in Lon Kruger."
As a player, Mason played for the USA Today National Champion St. Augustine High School team, then went and spent two seasons with Tyler Junior College, helping them earn the top national ranking during the 1996-97 season. He finished his playing career at Tulane University, helping lead his team to a Conference USA National Division championship.
