ELMHURST, Ill. - Oral Roberts University sophomore Alex Gonzalez was named Summit League Pitcher of the Week, while freshman teammate Jose Trevino was named the conference’s Player of the Week, it was announced today.

Gonzalez was named Pitcher of the Week after tossing a gem against North Dakota State in the regular season finale. The Boca Raton, Fla., native went a complete eight innings without allowing a run and striking out nine in a 10-0 victory.

The weekly award is the seventh of Gonzalez’s career, and his third of the season. For the regular season, Gonzalez posted a 6-2 record with a 1.99 ERA.

Trevino batted .538 for the week, with two home runs and five RBI. He played error-free baseball in 17 chances, and he posted a .933 slugging percentage. His Friday home run against North Dakota State gave him 12 for the season, a new ORU freshman record. He finished the regular season with 50 RBI, two off of ORU’s high watermark for a rookie.

Trevino shares the Player of the Week award with Oakland’s Kyle Bobolts.

The Golden Eagles open play at the 2012 Summit League Tournament presented by Currington Mortgage on Thursday at 7 pm CT against Southern Utah. The tournament continues through Saturday at J.L. Johnson Stadium, with the winner securing the Summit League’s automatic berth in the 2012 NCAA Tournament.
