The national college baseball website recognized Trevino for a week in which he was named Summit League Player of the Week. Trevino batted .538 last week, leading ORU to a series win over North Dakota State. The victories were key as ORU held off Oakland for their 14th straight Summit League regular season crown.
Included in Trevino’s Herculean efforts from a week ago was a pair of home runs against North Dakota State, giving the Corpus Christi, Texas native the ORU freshman home run record, with 12. The rookie drove in five runs and also pitched a scoreless inning against the Bison.
For the season, Trevino is batting .321 with 12 home runs and 50 RBI.
The top-seeded Golden Eagles (33-22, 17-6 Summit League) host the 2012 Summit League Tournament presented by Currington Mortgage this week at J.L. Johnson Stadium. ORU opens the event on Thursday at 7 pm CT against fourth-seeded Southern Utah.
