ORU host Lady Demons for second time Friday
TULSA, Okla. - Coming off a disappointing loss on Monday, the Oral Roberts women's soccer team looks to even its conference record on Friday evening when they host Northwestern State (La.) at the Case Soccer Complex. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
Both teams enter the weekend with one conference match under their belt. The Golden Eagles (6-4-2, 0-1-0) fell in their inaugural Southland Conference match at Stephen F. Austin, 5-0, while the Lady Demons (5-6-1, 0-0-1) held the nation's top offense, Central Arkansas, to a scoreless draw.
On Aug. 31, the Golden Eagles blasted the Lady Demons in a non-conference match, 5-0. Five different goal scorers put the ball in net for the Golden Eagles, including Ashley Martin (6'), Mary-Kate Halsmer (32'), Lauren Parks (42'), Jennifer Abernathy (55') and Kayla Keller (60').
The Lady Demons played a pair of keepers in the first matchup as Brooke Bourbonais played the first 47:49 of the match and recorded two saves. She was then replaced by Jessica Danku to finish the match and adding four saves of her own.
Bourbonais has been called upon as the starter between the posts in each match this season, totaling 61 saves. Her counterpart for the Lady Eagles, sophomore Helen Erb, has two more saves, ranking them second and third in the conference.
Erb continues to make an impact on the ORU record books, entering the weekend with six shutouts this season, needing just two more to tie the single season record, and is ten saves away from reaching the top 10 in single season saves.
Lady Demon junior Yanci Johnsons leads her squad this season in total shots with 31, goals with 11 and points with 13 though their first 11 matches. However, against the Golden Eagles earlier this season, she wasn't able to get a shot off, while teammates Ashlee Savona and Danielle Harding each added two.
Abernathy led ORU with eight shots in the earlier meeting, three of which were on goal. Keller and Jordan Parsons each put two shots on goal as well.
The Golden Eagles lead the all-time series over the Lady Demons, 3-0.
