ORU Concludes Road Trip at Nicholls State

ORU is 4-7 (1-0 SLC) on the season after opening Southland Conference play with an 81-62 victory over Southeastern Louisiana on Thursday night. The Golden Eagles led SLU by as many as 32 points in the second half before the home team narrowed the deficit in the game’s final six minutes.
Senior Kevi Luper scored 18 points in the victory. With a basket at the 4:38 mark of the first half, Luper became the 48th player in NCAA Division I history to score 2,500 career points.
Junior center Sarah Shelton added a career-best 18 points in the victory thanks to a 7-for-9 shooting performance.
Point guard Jaci Bigham notched her sixth career double-double and her second of the season, with 14 points and 11 assists. Ten of Bigham’s 11 assists came in the opening half, and she led the Golden Eagles with six rebounds.
With the victory, Head Coach Misti Cussen became the first ORU coach to win their conference debut since Rhonda Penquite led the Golden Eagles to a 66-52 victory over St. Louis in their first ever Midwestern Collegiate Conference game on January 12, 1987.
Nicholls is 8-4 (0-1 SLC) after dropping their league opener, 72-56, to Central Arkansas on Thursday evening. Forward Alisha Allen paced the Colonels with 21 points and eight rebounds in the UCA loss, and through 12 games she averages a team-high 14.3 points per game.
Point guard KK Babin, a Preseason All-SLC pick, averages 12.5 points and 4.4 assists per game while shooting 40.8% from three-point range.
Nicholls Head Coach DoBee Plaisance is 37-90 in her fifth season at the school and 194-313 in 18 seasons overall.
ORU's Cussen is 4-7 in her first season.
ORU has never before faced Nicholls State.
With Thursday's win, ORU is now 10-9 all-time in conference openers and has won their first conference game in each of the last four seasons.
ORU returns home for the first time in 36 days when they host Northwestern State on Thursday, January 10. Game time at the Mabee Center is scheduled for 5 pm CT.
