ORU Starts Home Stand Against First Place Lamar

ORU is 7-9 (4-2 Southland Conference) on the 2012-13 season after falling to Sam Houston State, 54-47, on January 19 in Huntsville, Texas.
The Golden Eagles trailed by as many as nine points in the first half before tying the game, 23-23, on a Kevi Luper jumper 14 seconds into the second period. But SHSU retook the lead at the 18:58 mark and never gave it up, topping the Golden Eagles by seven.
Senior Jaci Bigham carried the Golden Eagle offense through a rough day, scoring a season-high 25 points. Bigham tallied 25 of the team’s 47 points and hit 10 of the team’s 19 field goals in the loss.
ORU shot 33.3% as a team and was 1-for-15 (6.7%) from three-point range. The six ORU players other than Bigham shot 25.7% as a group.
Bigham’s scoring outburst was her highest since scoring 33 points against IPFW on December 29, 2010.
Lamar was picked sixth in both Southland Conference Preseason Polls, but they currently sit in a three-way tie for first place with a 12-4 record (5-1 SLC). The Cardinals knocked off preseason SLC favorite McNeese State, 56-53, on January 19 in Lake Charles, La.
Senior All-SLC selection Kalis Loyd led the Cardinals with 22 points and 15 rebounds in the January 19 victory over McNeese State. On the season, Loyd leads the Lady Cardinals with 18.8 points and 7.4 rebounds per game. She ranks 2nd in the Southland Conference in points per game and first in steals, at 2.5 per game.
Lamar Head Coach Larry Tidwell is Lamar’s all-time winningest coach, with a 118-59 record in his sixth season leading the Lamar program.
ORU's Misti Cussen is 7-9 in her first season heading up the Golden Eagle program.
Oral Roberts is 3-4 all-time against Lamar, with a 1-1 record at the Mabee Center, a 1-3 record in Beaumont, Texas and a 1-0 record in neutral site games.
ORU last played the Cardinals on November 26, 2005, a 11-84 victory at the Mabee Center. The Golden Eagles shot 50.0% from the floor and had five players in double-figures in the 2005 victory. Elisha Turek led the Golden Eagles with 22 points and eight rebounds off the bench, while Alycia Seay scored 21.
Lamar’s last win over ORU came in a much lower scoring affair, a 52-50 win on December 30, 2004. Turek had 21 points and 12 rebounds in the loss.
ORU continues their home swing on Saturday, January 26 when they host McNeese State. Tipoff at the Mabee Center is scheduled for 5 pm CT.
