LAWRENCE, Kan. - The Oral Roberts men's and women's track and field teams took part in the Kansas Jayhawk Invitational on Friday, placing in the top three in eight events, including the women's 4x400 relay team.

The relay team, featuring Maisha Mitchell, Marrisa Thomas, Erin Roberson and Victoria Reynolds, finished in second place between the host Kansas and Division II power Emporia State with a time of 3:56.81. Roberson and Thomas also finished third and fourth in the women's 800 meter with marks of 2:20.92 and 2:22.89, respectively.

Madison Reynolds, who had won her past two meets in the 400 meter, finished in second with a time of 56.18, just behind Diamond Dixon of Kansas. The freshman from Oklahoma City has finished no lower than second in her four collegiate meets.

Picking up a third place medal in the women's 200 meter was Tamaira Williams. Classmate of Reynolds, the Broken Arrow native finished behind a pair of teammates from South Florida at 25.56. It was her best finish of her collegiate career.

Unfortunately, in men's action, a couple of Golden Eagle streaks came to an end.

In the high jump, All-American Jack Whitt finished as the top attached jumper, but his 10-meet streak of meet victories came to an end as he placed second with a height of 5.41 meters (17-9.00).

Jeffery Gibson, the reigning Southland track athlete of the week, didn't win his first meet of the season, placing third with a time of 48.12 in the 400 meter during the PM session of the meet.

Sophomore runner Tyler Banks picked his best individual finish of the indoor season, placing second with a time of 1:55.80. Also recording his best finish of the season is senior transfer Morrie Turner. Participating in the long jump, Turner leaped to a distance of 7.22 meters (23-8.25).

ORU track and field athletes will be spread out next week and they take part in three separate events, including the Cylcone Classic at Iowa State on Thursday and Friday, as well as the OC Invite No. 2 in Norman, hosted by Oklahoma Christian, and the Tyson Invitational at Arkansas.
