Former NFL QB Paul Smith Addresses ORU Athletes
TULSA, Okla. - ORU Athletics held the first Athletic Chapel of the new year on Friday, featuring former NFL quarterback Paul Smith. Before he spoke, women's tennis player Natalia Dollar and men's soccer player Daniel McCarthy led the praise and worship.
Smith began by reflecting on his time in college after watching a highlight video of his record-setting career.
"I know you hear it a lot, but cherish every moment," said Smith to the crowd of more than 200 student-athletes and staff. "I am thankful that I had enough people tell me that during college that I tried hard to take it all in. Look around and enjoy the places that you get to travel and play."
The main point of Smith's message was "greatness," and he made sure that everyone in attendance knew that the fact that God gave them the ability to compete at the Division I level was, in itself great.
Smith finished his talk by challenging each person to "find time to reflect on what God is doing in your life. Will you be proud of your time at ORU? Will you be proud of the influence you are having on others? You can't take [championship] rings to heaven, but you can take your brothers and sisters in Christ."
